Burton and Rotherham chase Australia international

Ross County and Australia midfielder Jackson Irvine is a target for Burton Albion and Rotherham, according to Scottish media site Press and Journal.

Irvine came into the Scottish leagues with Celtic, but only made one appearance for the Scottish champions, spending a season on loan at Kilmarnock before a loan move to Ross County.

He signed permanently for Ross County this season, making 36 appearances and impressing Burton scouts in the process.

Irvine has played 4 times for Australia since 2013, but hasn’t established himself as a permanent member of the squad yet.

The 23-year-old was part of the side that won the Scottish League Cup this season and got a player of the month award in March as a recognition of his performances.

Burton Albion are looking to strengthen after promotion this year, but are looking for alternatives due to their lower budget, and see Irvine as a great cheap option.

Rotherham are likewise on the lower end of the financial scale in the Championship, and appear to be looking at a similar style of signing and came up with the same answer.

The Australian international has one year to go on his contract and as such, his fee will likely be small, or failing that, free if the teams can wait a year.
