Katrien Meire says a takeover will lead to a move from the Valley

At the press conference on Tuesday, where Charlton officially unveiled their new manager, Russell Slade, the CEO Katrien Meire was asked if this was a final attempt of success, and she hit back against potential buyer Peter Varney, according to local reports.

On one of the more positive days under the Roland Duchatelet ownership of Charlton Athletic, Katrien Meire  was asked if this was Duchatelet’s final attempt of attempting to operate and run the South East London side successfully before selling.

The Chief executive officer responded with the following:

“As we said in the past the club is not for sale.

“He [Roland] had several approaches from alleged buyers before, including the one from Mr Varney.

“But a proposal like that includes a move away from the Valley and Roland Duchatelet knows how important it is for fans that Charlton plays at the Valley.”

Peter Varney was contacted and had the following response to the accusations by the CEO:

“Any proposed move is total nonsense.

“I’ve attempted to meet the owner on a number of occasions – but he has refused to do so.

“I have no problem if the club do not wish to sell – but it is inappropriate to discredit people wishing to have a meaningful dialogue with the owner.

“I would say to her to provide any evidence to support the statement she has made to the media.”

Peter Varney gave Katrien Meire 48 hours to retract her statement regarding that Varney was planning to move the footballing side from their home ground, he told the News Shopper.

“It is totally untrue and completely fabricated.

“I have been in dialogue with Roland Duchatelet directly.

“My position is that they should issue a retraction because it is totally untrue. I am quite happy to publish the evidence of the proposal to prove that.

“I am giving them 48 hours to publish a retraction.”

When will Roland Duchatelet finally remove Katrien Meire from the Valley for just causing problem after problem.
