Newcastle after two Premier League forwards

Released West Brom forward Victor Anichebe has been linked with Newcastle and according to The Mag has been talked about at by the board.

A slightly more encouraging link, was Newcastle’s attempts to sign Patrick Bamford from Chelsea, who bagged 17 goals in Middlesbrough’s ultimately unsuccessful season in 2014/15.

Bamford has had a few unsuccessful spells in the Premier League since that spell, but at Championship level the forward could be a great signing.

Anichebe is a strange one – just six Premier League goals in 55 games is not great, and at Everton his scoring record was not much better, and he has had a lot of injury issues.

It is also believed that he is on high wages, and for someone with his goalscoring record, you would not want to pay a lot of money.

That said, Anichebe is a powerful forward and when fit is an absolute handful to deal with.

Bamford is looking for another loan move but it’s likely that eventually he will move permanently, as he has struggled to find form in the Premier League at 23, so him breaking into the Chelsea side seems pretty unlikely.
