Liverpool look to raid Villa for defender – valued at £11m

According to French sports publication L’Equipe, Liverpool are casting an interested eye over relegated Aston Villa’s French left-back Jordan Amavi.

The Toulon-born 22-year-old of Togoan heritage, signed for Aston Villa from French Ligue 1 side Nice for what was described by Villa as “an undisclosed fee” but it has been reported that this fee could be between £8m, as suggested by Transfermarkt, or as high as £10, according to the Birmingham Mail.

L’Equipe say that despite his club being relegated from the Premier League, Villa “want to keep a superior proposal to the purchase price (€14m – £11m).” The L’Equipe article then goes on to state that “Liverpool has recently indicated an interest to the player’s adviser,” something that is supported by recently emergent reports on the Express website.

Mentioning that Jurgen Klopp is planning to overhaul the Liverpool side, the Express say that the German coach is “desperate” to find reinforcement in the left-back area following the departure of Jose Enrique from the club.

It is due to these worries of weakness in that area of the squad that the Express say that Liverpool are turning to Amavi who they [the Express] say was “one of the only rays of light during Villa’s relegation campaign.”

Amavi is currently out with a cruciate ligament injury that was picked up whilst on duty for France’s U-21s in November, a injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season but with a recovery that is expected to be in place before the start of hte 2016/17 campaign.
