Aston Villa spaniard set to return to home country

Aston Villa’s Carles Gil is set to return to his native Spain according to a report from Spanish newspaper Estadio Deportivo.

The 23-year-old midfelder came with big expectations when he signed for Aston Villa from Valencia back in January 2015 but has never been able to live up to them after only making 34 appearances in his eighteen months at Villa Park.

That means it’s no surprise to see him leave this summer following their relegation to the Championship and several La Liga clubs are said to be interested in bringing Gil back to his home country.

The team currently leading the race to sign Gil are Real Betis who performed well in La Liga last season after finishing 10th. It is believed they just want a loan deal with the option to buy, a deal that favours Aston Villa as they aren’t keen to sell Gil permanently just yet. Other clubs said to be interested are Deportivo La Coruna, Celta Vigo and Sevilla.

Gil started his career at Elche where he was very impressive where he made 64 appearances after breaking into the first team back in 2012. His performances then earned him a big move to Valencia but after making more substitute appearances than starts he left after six months to join Aston Villa.
