Monk odds on, but interesting second favourite for Leeds job

It is all across the media today that former Swansea City manager Garry Monk is in talks to become the next Leeds United manager. Whilst there is every chance he will be appointed, the odds on favourite isn’t nailed on to want to work with Massimo Cellino.

Remember, MK Dons manager Karl Robinson, then Oldham Athletic boss John Sheridan and Bristol Rovers’ Darrell Clarke were all odds on at one stage as well. Clarke wasn’t interested in the role, whilst Robinson rejected it outright. Could Monk do the same?

Whilst it may seem unlikely that Monk will want away from this opportunity, a very interesting name has appeared as second favourite behind Monk in the next Leeds United manager market. Monk is the very, very short priced favourite as we all know, butt Blackburn Rovers fans will now the 14/1 second favourite very well.

Remember Steve Kean?

He was certainly Mr Unpopular at Ewood Park during his tenure in charge. After being appointed in December 2010 following the departure of Sam Allardyce. The club avoided relegation in that season, but the next campaign saw them drop into the Championship and they haven’t returned to the top flight since. Following fan protests and the overwhelming pressure to remove him from the post, Kean declared he was ‘forced to resign’ in September 2012.

Since then, he has managed in the S.League with Brunei DPMM. They actually won the league in 2015 under the Scot, and also won a domestic cup competition the year before as well.

There is probably no major significance to this, especially if Monk signs a contract in the coming hours or days, but Kean is now second favourite for the role. That is a fact.
