Retained List

Retained List: 7 depart Millwall

Only a few days after their play-off final defeat to Barnsley, Millwall manager Neil Harris has announced his retained list. A total of seven players are to leave the club, with two more being awarded new contracts.

An additional player is still having talks with the club with the view of extending his stay as well. Harris commented that his only concern now is building a squad capable of challenging for promotion once again.

Veteran Carlos Edwards will leave the club after spending a couple of seasons at The Den. He started all three play-off matches in the last few weeks, but his last game before that came in March. He has mainly been a cover player and the 37-year-old is free to find himself a new club.

Midfielder Ed Upson will also exit the club having started 16 league matches last season. The former Ipswich and Yeovil man had occasional runs in the team in the year gone by, but like Edwards, he has mainly been cover and a regular substitute.

Winger Lee Martin and striker John Marquis completes the list of senior players who will leave. Under-21 players Jack Powell, Chris Parr and Keaton Wood have also been released.

Key defenders Joe Martin and Byron Webster have had options activated in their contract which entitles them to one-year deals respectively. Centre back Mark Beevers remains in talks with Harris over extending his contract.

Club legend Harris insisted that it is always hard to make decisions like this but wanted to thank those players who are departing,

“First and foremost I want to thank all the players who are leaving us for their immense dedication and hard work during their time at the club.

“They handled my decision like true professionals and I wish Carlos, Ed, Lee, John, Jack, Chris and Keaton nothing but the very best of luck for their future careers.”
