Peterborough’s 2011 Promotion XI – where are they now?

It’s been five long years for Peterborough United fans since their 3-0 Play Off victory at Old Trafford earned them promotion to the Championship.

With a new era just beginning at Posh, it seemed suitable to have a look at the whereabouts of the Starting XI who won promotion on that famous day in May 2011:

Goalkeeper – Paul Jones

The goalkeeper on that day for Posh was Paul Jones. He was in his debut season for the Posh having signed on a loan. Since leaving the club, he has played for Crawley Town and Portsmouth. He was loaned to Crawley in February, but is currently at Portsmouth.

Right Back – Mark Little

Mark Little has played a key role in the success Posh have had in recent years. He was a consistent figure at right back for a number of seasons, before his contract expired in 2014. He joined Bristol City in the same year, and is still at the club, and currently playing in the Championship.

Centre Back – Gabriel Zakuani

One of the most iconic faces at Peterborough United, Gabriel Zakuani is a club legend. He’s been a part of the club since first signing for them on loan in 2008. He appeared over 200 times for the club, but was sadly released following Posh’s disappointing campaign this year. He is currently without a club but will always remain a Posh hero.

Centre Back – Ryan Bennett

Ryan Bennett formed an unbelievable partnership with Gabriel Zakuani during their time together at Peterborough. He left the club in 2012, and his departure was described by Gabriel Zakuani as a “divorce”. Peterborough got a reported £3.2 million for the centre-half. He’s now appeared almost 60 times for Norwich City, and will appear for the club in the Championship next season.

Left Back – Grant Basey

Grant Basey is a player that not many Peterborough United fans will be familiar with. He only played 10 games for the club, but one of them happened to be that famous day at Old Trafford. His career has fallen away since leaving the Posh, and he now appears for semi-professional club Cray Wanderers.
