Violence mars League One play-off final

Barnsley’s celebrations of winning the League 1 play off final were ruined when Millwall fans broke through a police barrier to attack them as shown on this video on the Daily Express.

There were hints of the trouble to come before the game when a video of Millwall fans throwing missiles at Barnsley fans on the ramp on Wembley way was uploaded to Twitter by BBC Radio Sheffield journalist Rob Station.

There had also been reports of Millwall fans clashing with police near the Wembley turnstiles.

However the worst moment came when Millwall fans were able to break through the police fan and charged towards the Barnsley fans who were celebrating their promotion. Those inside the stadium told of how Barnsley fans were forced to run away and leave the stadium to avoid the threats of violence.

The scenes were reminiscent of the last time Millwall made it to Wembley when they started fighting among themselves after losing to Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup semi final.
