Millwall will spend another season in League 1 after falling to a 3-1 defeat to Barnsley at Wembley.
The Lions suffered a disastrous start when Ashley Fletcher netted the opener within the first two minutes and matters soon got worse for Neil Harris’ side as the influential Adam Hammill rifled a 25 yard thunderbolt into the net before the match was even 20 minutes old.
Millwall pulled a goal back before the half time interval through a close range Mark Beevers effort before Barnsley secured their promotion with a second half header from Lloyd Isgrove.
After coming so close to a return to the Championship, Millwall must now re-group for an assault on the League 1 top six again next season. After the match, fans took to Twitter to give their views on The Lions’ defeat.
We were second best all game today. Bring on next season. In Harris we trust. #Millwall
