Loan defender wants to return to Wednesday

On loan Sheffield Wednesday defender Joe Bennett has confirmed that he would love to return to Hillsborough again in the future with his initial stay with The Owls set to expire according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 26 year old Rochdale born defender joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan from parent club Aston Villa in January and despite only making four appearances for The Owls after being hit with injury problems, Bennett has admitted that he has loved every minute of his time at the South Yorkshire club and would be open to another spell with Wednesday in the future.

The left back started his career as a youngster in Middlesbrough’s famous youth academy and graduated into a first team regular for the Teessiders making 85 appearances for the club and scoring once.

In August 2012, Bennett moved to Aston Villa for a reported £2.75 million transfer fee. The defender made 29 appearances for Villa in his first season at the club but lost his place in the side and has made just seven appearances in the past three years. Since falling out of favour at Villa Park, Bennett has spent loan spells at Brighton & Hove Albion and AFC Bournemouth before his January move to Sheffield Wednesday.

Bennett has one year left on his deal at Aston Villa however the club may wish to cut their losses and allow the player to leave as they re-build the squad following their relegation from the Premier League.
