Ex-Scotland manager short-price favourite for Blackburn job

Alex McLeish is the new short favourite to become the next manager at Championship side Blackburn Rovers. The 57-year-old Scot has managed in both Belgium and Egypt in his last two managerial roles, but has always been keen on a return to English football.

Russell Slade is also understood to have been interviewed for the vacancy, which has been free ever since Paul Lambert elected to step down after discussions with the Venky’s owners.

Neil Warnock, who left his role at Rotherham United, is another name that has been strongly linked to the role. However the fact he is only really searching for a short-term role could potentially put Rovers representatives off appointing him.

Manchester United coach Warren Joyce is another name which has strongly been mentioned for the post, but the flurry of money for McLeish, who has been out of work since he was sacked by Egyptian Premier League side Zamalek earlier this month, has to be taken strongly.

The former Scotland manager does have experience of getting out of this league after earning promotion with Birmingham City back in 2009. In addition to the Blues, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest are other former clubs that McLeish has managed at Championship level.

After a year out of the game when leaving the City Ground, the former Rangers boss surprised many by taking the managerial job at Belgian club Genk. He elected to step down after narrowly missing out on a Champions League qualification place.

It is very much a case of watch this space regarding Blackburn Rovers and their managerial search, but the money that has come for McLeish is certainly interested. Would this move please Blackburn Rovers fans? Let us know.
