John Sheridan

All systems go for Sheridan Notts County appointment

The Nottingham Post understands that Oldham Athletic have failed in their last-ditch attempt to persuade manager John Sheridan not to become the next Notts County manager. The Latics are said to have offered the former Leeds midfielder a pay rise, but the managerial move now looks inevitable.

Sheridan is expected to bring former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Mark Crossley with him on his coaching staff. The pair previously worked together at Chesterfield. Compensation has been agreed, and an announcement should come out on the two clubs later today.

Alan Smith, currently on the playing staff at Notts County, is also expected to become part of Sheridan’s coaching setup at Meadow Lane. The former England international was recently offered a new contract, which is now expected to be a player/coach role.

There has been no official word coming out of either football club that an approach has been made, but compensation has been agreed and Sheridan has his heart set on dropping down a league to take over the Magpies.

Latics chairman Simon Corney tried to offer a new deal to Sheridan to try and change his mind, but it is believed that nothing would have prevented the former Sheffield Wednesday man from leaving Boundary Park once again.

Sheridan was heavily linked to the vacancy at Leeds United a few weeks ago, but does now look set for a change of role. Notts County will be Sheridan’s four different manager’s job since 2013, after coaching Plymouth Argyle and Newport County prior to his second spell as Oldham boss.
