Chesterfield reject bids for Jay O’Shea

Chesterfield have knocked back two bids for Jay O’Shea from Portsmouth according to Press Association Sport and as reported by Portsmouth News.

Pompey are looking to boost their squad so they can finally get promoted from League 2 and have made O’Shea one of their targets.

He is known well by Portsmouth’s manager Paul Cook having managed him when he was the boss of Chesterfield between 2012 and 2015.

But at the moment, it appears that O’Shea will be staying at the Proact Stadium as their chief executive Chris Turner revealed that they have already knocked back two bids and that the final decision on whether or not O’Shea stays or goes will be down to the manager Danny Wilson.

Turner confirmed the rumours by saying: “The player has been chased for the last two weeks. We’ve had two offers and knocked them both back.”

“We don’t want the player to leave the club but it’s hard to say. I’ll put the ball in Danny’s court, he’s the manager. If Danny says the player wants to go, he’s been offered X and it’s a great deal then he’ll go.”

“If Danny says he doesn’t want him to go then he stays. It’s as simple as that. But the problem becomes when the player knows what he’s going to get paid at the next club and I don’t know how you stop that, it happens everywhere.”

While the Spireites season wasn’t a massive success as they were forced to change manager in order to survive in League 1, O’Shea showed his talent throughout the season by making 50 appearances and scoring nine goals.
