Notts County expect Sheridan appointment

The BBC understands that Notts County are highly likely to confirm Oldham Athletic’s John Sheridan as their next manager. Their chief executive, Jason Turner, has previously worked with Sheridan during their time at Newport County.

The Magpies have been searching for a new managerial ever since Mark Cooper departed following the culmination of the season. He has since taken over the job at Vanarama National League side Forest Green Rovers.

The past week has seen Sheridan be heavily linked with the vacancy at former club Leeds United. At one stage, he was the heavy odds-on favourite and it seemed inevitable something was about to happen. However, instead of jumping up a league, he looks set to leave Oldham by taking over a side at a level below.

The Meadow Lane club are up for sale and have been so ever since Ray Trew put them on the market in March. Sheridan has had a number of managerial jobs in recent years, including Plymouth Argyle.

Moving to Notts County will be the sixth separate full time manager’s role that ex-Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sheridan has taken. The club are desperately seeking some consistency and stability, after they had three different managers last season, including Ricardo Moniz and Jamie Fullarton.

The world’s oldest professional football club have been declined in recent times, but they clearly have pulled out all of the stops to bring in someone they believe can halt that run. That man appears to be 51-year-old Sheridan, who is expected to be confirmed as their latest manager in the coming days.
