Championship clubs chase signature of Addicks striker

Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers, Bristol City, Nottingham Forest, Queens Park Rangers and Wolverhampton Wanderers are all understood to be interested in signing Charlton Athletic striker Tony Watt according to News Shopper.

The 22 year old Coatbridge born striker is set to leave The Addicks this summer following the club’s relegation to League 1.

Charlton Athletic signed Watt from Belgian club Standard Liege in January 2015 and the striker played a key role for the South East London club making 22 appearances and scoring five goals for the club during the remainder of the 2014/2015 campaign.

Watt has found life at The Valley tougher over the past 12 months and the player made a further 14 appearances for the club scoring three goals before being loaned out to both Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers for the remainder of the campaign.

Despite the youngster becoming something of a Football League journeyman over the past few months, the player is not short of admirers and it has been reported that at least six Championship clubs are lining up to battle for his signature over the close season.

Watt started his career with Airdrie United before being picked up by Glasgow giants Celtic. In over three years at Celtic Park, the striker struggled to make an impact at first team level and made just 34 appearances for the club. Watt was loaned out to Belgian club Lierse SK before making a permanent move to the Belgian Pro League with Standard Liege.
