Championship trio battle for Cherries hot shot Tomlin

Bristol City, Fulham and Newcastle United will fight it out to secure the signing of AFC Bournemouth striker Lee Tomlin according to the Bristol Post.

The 27 year old striker had a hugely successful spell on loan at Ashton Gate this season after failing to make an impact in the Premier League with parent club AFC Bournemouth and it has been reported that Tomlin could now be set to end his Dean Court misery and move on this summer.

Tomlin joined The Cherries from Middlesbrough for a reported £3.5 million transfer fee after the club failed to gain promotion from the Championship last season but struggled to adapt to life in the top flight making just 10 appearances for the club scoring once.

The striker signed for Bristol City on loan at the end of January and soon became a fans’ favourite after scoring six goals in 18 appearances for the club. Robins manager Lee Johnson has confirmed his desire to bring the player to the club on a permanent basis and Bristol City looked to be the favourites to land the player this summer but it is now understood that fellow Championship heavyweights Fulham and Newcastle United are also competing for Tomlin’s signature.

Should Bristol City wish to be successful in their pursuit of the striker, The Robins may need to come close to matching Tomlin’s wage demands with the player currently believed to be earning around £30,000 a week on the South Coast.
