Ex-Blades Nigel Adkins – interested in the Addicks’

The ex-Blades manager, Nigel Adkins is looking a likely takeover target for the Addicks according to a recent report from the South London Press.

Nigel Adkins was sacked at the end of the season from Sheffield United for not succeeding in securing a play-off spot for the Blades.

Just hours after Nigel Adkins was removed from the Blades, Chris Wilder was quickly appointed to take Adkins’ seat, and now Charton Athletic are planning on potentially installing Adkins at the South East London Side.

Adkins has a reputable CV, with having both success at Scunthorpe and Southampton, Adkins is best known for bringing the Saints from League One to the Premier League.

Previously Charlton were chasing Chris Wilder after his success with Northampton Town, and reports were showing that he was most definitely likely to takeover. However, that fell through because Sheffield United threw their hat in the ring, a club close to Wilder’s heart, and the possibility that Charlton offered no guarantees in terms of transfer powers.

Nigel Adkins could be a good fit at the South East London side, but with the national stigma the club has regarding terrible ownership by the infamous Roland Duchatelet and his assistant Katrien Meire, Adkins is most definitely going to be seeking out assurances.

If Adkins can get them assurances, and can be appointed as soon as possible, he can begin to rebuild the club and prepare for a competitive and strong fight in the Football League One next season.

Rumours of other managers include: Former Fulham manager – Kit Symons and Former Assistant Boss at Celtic – John Collins.
