Retained List: Relegated Charlton release seven

It was a difficult season for Charlton Athletic both on and off the field. They have today revealed their retained list, despite not having a manager due to Jose Riga’s departure following the final day of the season game with Championship title winners Burnley.

Two experienced first-team players have moved on, whilst the remaining five are all players from within the academy structure.

Italian full back Marco Motta leaves The Valley having joined midway through the season. He enjoyed a regular run of games at right back because of the injury to Chris Solly. He spent time on trial at Queens Park Rangers earlier this season, but he is now free to join another club.

Forward Reza Ghoochannejhad is the other high-profile name to be leaving the club. He struggled with injury problems last season, but proved that when he is fit he could offer something to the team. He was in and out of favour at various points of his stay with the club. The 28-year-old Iranian international joined in January 2014.

The following players are also free to leave and they are headlined by Joe Pigott, who is perhaps best known for his exploits away from the Addicks. He had six separate loan spells away from the club, most recently Luton Town and including two spells with Southend United. Also moving on will be Zak Ansah, Alex Kelly, Josh Staunton and Ayo Obileye.

Callum Harriott, Alou Diarra and Marko Dmitrovic have all been handed new one-year contracts having triggered clauses in their respective contracts. Harriott ended the seasn as a regular following a fine loan spell at Colchester, whilst Diarra has largely been a usual starter this season. Dmitrovic is currently out on loan with Spanish second-tier club Alcorcon.

Young goalkeeper Dillon Phillips, who had a productive loan spell with Vanarama National League title winners Cheltenham Town, has been offered a new one-year contract extension.
