Retained List: Parrish and two more part with Morecambe

Finishing 21st in  Sky Bet League Two was hardly a fabulous season from Morecambe, but at least they never went down, or looked like doing so. On paper, Jim Bentley’s retained list doesn’t appear to be too dramatic. Just three players have left, however two of those enjoyed plenty of football this season.

The Shrimps currently only have eight players officially under contract going into next season, however talks are continuing with several other players going into the summer.

Now lets start with the departures. Left back Alan Goodall is free to depart the Globe Arena after he wasn’t offered a new contract. The former Rochdale and Fleetwood Town man will be turning 35 next season, so perhaps the club will want to be focusing more on the future. He did start 32 League Two games this season.

Andrew Parrish is the next player to move on and he too started plenty of times this season. Out of the 46 League Two games this season, he started 31 of those. He has been at the club since June 2008 however and the fans’ favourite, who was born in Bolton, has been allowed to move on. He played 301 times for the club.

Finally, young midfielder Nathan Bondswell moves on, having only featured once and briefly for the first-team during his time with the club.

The following players remain under contract going into the 2016/17 season:

Tom Barkhuizen, Kevin Ellison, Aaron McGowan, Lee Molyneux, Paul Mullin, Peter Murphy, Barry Roche and Aaron Wilding.
