Vincent Tan

5 candidates to be the next Cardiff City manager

Paul Clement

It was most certainly harsh when Mel Morris decided to sack Paul Clement as Derby County head coach earlier in the season. They had a spell of a few dodgy results and below-par performances, but nothing out of the ordinary for any team during any Championship season. He proved in some matches that he can get teams playing attractive football and if given the time, he could certainly do that with Cardiff.

He will be hurting after the Derby episode, and would he want to go into employment with Vincent Tan? That is a big question considering how he was treated at Derby too. However he is a football man and now sees himself as a football manager having been right-hand man to Carlo Ancelotti across Europe with some big clubs.

There is no doubt that he will want to get back into football as well. He won’t want to bow out and drift into the footballing wilderness. He will be conscious that this summer would be a good time for him to return whilst most people are aware of him. Cardiff is a good club and an attractive job for many, and Clement ticks plenty of boxes for sure. He is young and ambitious, and could get a lot out of the team on the training field as well.
