Former Leeds United striker labels current player an “absolute disgrace”

Leeds United’s former striker Noel Whelan has blasted Mirco Antenucci over his lackluster performance against Preston yesterday.

The game finished 1-1 but Whelan was quick to point out that Antenucci “walked away from celebrating” with the team when they went 0-1 up.

Antenucci yesterday revealed he’d be leaving the club when his contract expires and Leeds fans had mixed reactions to this news.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, 41 year-old Whelan said:

“He’d be one of those on my list to get shot of. He walked away from celebrating, [it’s] an absolute disgrace.

“I want a togetherness where everyone fights and celebrates.”

Leeds finished the season in 13th thanks to their point at Deepdale and are now facing the uncertainty surrounding boss Steve Evans’ future.

Many players, including Bellusci and Wootton, and also being linked with moves away from the club as the Whites look to mount a play-off push next season.

Whelan also touched on the current managerial situation at the club, saying:

“I don’t think I’ve ever come across a club that is so unorganized. We love it, but it’s an absolute shambles”
