League One boss backed for Blackburn vacancy

There has been plenty of recent support for Rochdale manager Keith Hill to become the replacement for Paul Lambert with Championship side Blackburn Rovers. Major support in the last few hours has seen his original double-figure betting price dwindle down to 5/2 with Sky Bet. Hill played over 90 times for Rovers at the start of his playing career.

Paul Jewell remains the narrow favourite for the vacancy. Paul Lambert revealed a few days to last weekend’s victory at Rotherham United that he would be standing down from his position at the end of the campaign.

The Scot is understood to have held discussions with the Venky’s to clarify the situation ahead of next season. Clearly he wasn’t happy with their response and elected to leave the job. He has since become the favourite to take over at former club Celtic, where Ronnie Deila will depart this summer.

Favourite Jewell hasn’t managed since 2012, but Dale boss Hill has been in work for some time now. He has guided the club to two promotions from League Two in two separate spells at Spotland. On a vastly limited budget to most at League One level, he has propelled the club to the edge of the play-offs for a few seasons now.

Sandwiched between both stints at Rochdale was a spell with Barnsley in the Championship. In his first season he kept them in the division but narrowly avoiding relegation but lost his job midway into the following campaign.

His time at Barnsley was unspectacular but the job he has done at Rochdale simply cannot go unnoticed. With more financial investment, they could very well be a Championship club already. He is approaching 500 games in football management and could be set for a return to Rovers, which is where he started his playing career.
