5 factors to Leeds United success next season

Home Form

Elland Road needs to be a tough place to go once again. Let me correct that. It is a tough place to go, however the pure statistics suggest otherwise. Going into the final game of the season, Leeds have the 17th best home record in the league. Or to put it more brutally, the eight worst in the Championship. Without wanting to jump into past glories too much, a club like Leeds shouldn’t be losing 4-1 at home to Huddersfield, drawing with MK Dons or going down 1-0 to Rotherham. It is probably a sign of the times, but the Leeds fans will expect a stronger home record next season.

Ironically against some of the bigger teams they have an alright record. Burnley drew at Elland Road, as did Middlesbrough. Play-off sides Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday also ended in draws. For Leeds to deem next season a success, they need to turn at least a few of those draws like that into victories. Those scores and performances this season prove that they have the basic requirements needed to be competitive. They have been lacking consistency defensive or frequently quality in the final third at times. That is what the new coach or Steve Evans will require.

Consistency clearer is the issue, but they won’t be the only Championship club to say that. Their last ten home games reads four wins, three draws and three defeats. The last twenty home matches reads seven wins, five draws and eight defeats. It is all just a little bit hit and miss. That can be sorted, but everything needs to be right.
