PLAYER OF THE WEEKEND: Gary Hooper – Sheffield Wednesday
When a team needs a player to step up to the plate when they need them the most, that is exactly what Gary Hooper did for Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.
Facing a crucial game against Cardiff City, knowing a win would guarantee a playoff place over the Bluebirds, the Owls were desperate for the three points. They were helped by a terrific performance from Hooper, who scored twice and was absolutely crucial in the goal that was scored between his two strikes.
In fact, the moment where he stole the ball from David Marshall really personified his display, his desire to win the ball and create something gave Wednesday that little extra. If he can do it again come the post-season, he could help send his side back to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years.
