Leeds United message: Premier League players confirm hoax

‘Time To Go Massimo’ is both a sentiment and a rallying cry  up at Elland Road as certain Leeds fans rail against Massimo Cellino’s ownership of Leeds United.

Much has been done by the group Time To Go Massimo to raise the profile of their protests against the Cellino family ownership of the Whites. Images of Cellino’s broken promises projected onto the stands, a mock funeral symbolic of a dying club and a fan march on the ground are all things they have crafted up to make their points noticed.

When the following video appeared, it didn’t take long to be seized upon and for the it to be spread around social media, Twitter in particular, making it ‘go viral’.

In the video, Arsenal duo Jack Wilshire and Mesut Ozil and Spurs duo Harry Kane and Dele Alli are heard to mouth the mantra “time to go Massimo” to camera. It was shared, retweeted and passed around like a pass-the-parcel at a child’s birthday party, much to the amusement of many.

Not to the amusement of Kane and Alli though, both of the Tottenham stars livid at the video and how it portrayed them and by the manner in which the video was obtained. Both players posted the same reply of, “No – it was a hoax. Disgraceful the lengths people go to get a video they can change the context of like this.”

At first the TTGM group seemingly revelled in the video, acknowledging its creators as the @WhiteLeedsSite and saying:

However, after this initial burst of merriment, TTGM then released an official statement after the means of how the video was obtained became clear, distancing themselves from the video’s creator to some degree.

Whether there is any more to come from this, that’s likely another story for another day. But if it involves Leeds United or anything even remotely linked to the club, you can bet that the ‘Going off at a tangent’ bag will be opened and fully in use.
