Wednesday signed left-sided attacking midfielder Mattias from Portugeuse Primeira Liga side Nacional for an undisclosed fee (thought to be around £1.14m) on July 8 2015 after scoring 20 goals for the top flight side, helping them finish in seventh place.

Matias has only made 14 appearances (including six as a substitute) for the Owls this season and has scored three goals, including this effort (below).

Hernia surgery in late October 2015 cut short his game time, the 2-1 victory over Brentford being his last Wednesday game befoer his return at the end of January in the 3-2 FA Cup loss at the hands of Shrewsbury.

Over the course of a typical 90 minutes Matias has 17.8 successful passes at an accuracy rate of 77.6%. Of his total 183 passes over this season, 77.6% (135) are classed as ‘short passes’ – or passes less than 25 yards in distance. Matias has also laid on 3 key passes, or passes that lead to a shooting opportunity for others, in his 14 appearances – a figure that means that 2.1% of his passes lead to opportunities for others.

Matias also gets into attacking positions, insomuch as he takes 2.3 shots per typical 90 minutes, 18 shots in total. Of these 18 shots at goal, eight have been on target – a shooting accuracy of 44.4%. The three goals from eight on-target shots gives the Portuguese midfielder a conversion rate of 37.5%.
