The race for the Golden glove – Championship

Often the unsung heroes of their teams, goalkeepers arguably have the toughest position to play on the football pitch.

One mistake could jeopardise a match, a season, and in Rob Green’s case, a career.

Here’s a countdown of the five goalkeepers with the most clean sheets in the Championship this season:

5) David Stockdale (Brighton) – The Brighton shot stopper has been in brilliant form this season, and has helped Brighton mount a promotion push. The English keeper, who recently said he’d rather win promotion with Brighton than receive an England call-up, currently has a market value of £1.13m. The 30 year old has appeared 41 times for his side this year, keeping 15 clean sheets. This gives him a clean sheet percentage of 36.6%. The Brighton keeper averages 2.6 saves every game.

4) Tomasz Kuszczak ( Birmingham) – At number four we have Birmingham City’s keeper Tomasz Kusczcak. The former Man United shot stopper has been on good form for Birmingham, and has helped them to their best finish in recent years. Although his market value is currently only £563,000, he’s value to Birmingham City is far greater than that. The former Polish international was capped 11 times by his country. So far this season, he’s played 39 games, keeping 15 clean sheets. This gives him a clean sheet percentage of 38.5%. The Pole averages 3.2 saves per game
