5 key potential absentees in the Championship this weekend

It is set to be another massive weekend of Sky Bet Championship football, with clubs vying for automatic promotion and play-off spots, whereas a certain few are hoping to avoid relegation into League One as well.

Teams news therefore becomes even more important at this stage of the season. We have done the hard work for you and identified the five main injury absentees in the Championship this weekend.

First up, we focus on a potential key absentee surrounding the automatic promotion chase in the division. This could potentially please Middlesbrough and Brighton supporters.

Sam Vokes (Burnley)

Sean Dyche revealed to the Burnley Express that Welsh international striker Vokes is ‘touch and go’ ahead of their Saturday afternoon clash with Birmingham City at St Andrews.

He picked up a groin strain in their televised home victory against Leeds United last time out and Dyche revealed on Friday that the 26-year-old has received some treatment. Considering they have a massive game with Middlesbrough on Tuesday, it remains to be seen if Dyche will risk the forward.

Vokes has formed a fine partnership alongside Andre Gray and has helped himself to 13 goals so far. It remains to be seen if he will be fit enough to potentially add to that tally against the Blues, much to the pleasure of the Birmingham defence, and all of those connected with Middlesbrough and Brighton.

Should he miss out, then Ashley Barnes could come into the side, however the fit-again Rouwen Hennings would most likely start, considering he is most similar in size and stature to Vokes.
