The top 5 left backs in the Championship

Charlie Taylor (Leeds United)

Taylor has been playing in what has largely been a struggling Leeds team this season. Perhaps inconsistent is the better way to describe it. Still, Taylor has been one of the shining lights without a doubt and this is despite missing the first part of the season through injury. The Elland Road club are desperate to tie this man down to a longer-term contract, as they know he is set for a bright future.

He is gaining experience all of the time and that can only aid his cause. Perhaps another season at Championship level would ‘do him the world of good’, but Leeds had plenty of interest for him last January and undoubtedly will over the summer again. He takes quite a lot of Leeds’ corners and set pieces, so that is another added quality to his arsenal.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed loan spells at Bradford City, York City, Inverness and Fleetwood, in addition to over 50 appearances for the Whites. Those experiences will only aid his development over the next few years. He has very much made the left back spot his own and several scouts from higher league clubs are taking a shine to him.

Leeds will be keen to avoid a similar situation to that of Sam Byram, so Massimo Cellino will be desperate to get the youngster to pen his long-term future to the Yorkshire club. Most fans that watch Leeds game, supporting the opposition team, tend to say ‘that left back was decent’ and Taylor could earn significantly bigger headlines than that in the coming years.
