George Friend

The top 5 left backs in the Championship

Andrew Robertson (Hull City)

Scottish international Robertson has been the subject of interest from Manchester United and Arsenal this summer. So even if Hull don’t get promoted, there is a good chance that Andy Robertson will! Generally when Hull play well, it is no coincidence that Robertson has a good game. Even if the result is negative, he usually performs at a solid 7 out of 10 ratio more often than not.

He moved to the KC Stadium for just under £3million in July 2014 from Dundee United and has already proved his worth to do considerably worth more than the Tigers paid their Scottish counterparts. The Glaswegian, like George Friend, is a type that offers so much going forward and that is perhaps what stands him above most of the competition. He has plenty of pace, so he’ll constantly charge up and down the left side, meaning he can recover his position at speed once an attack breaks down.

The 22-year-old has amassed nine Scottish international caps so far and looks set to increase that number over the coming years. He already has experienced of both the Premier League and Championship, and has proved he is capable of settling at either level. Again, like Friend, he is very good on the ball and could probably play as a winger if Steve Bruce wanted to! He has played at left-wing-back this season too, which is no surprise.

Robertson could still have a big role to play in the remainder of the season, possibly resulting in a Wembley appearance in the Championship Play-Off Final. Expect the Hull City fax machine to receive plenty of offers for Robertson should the Tigers fail to make it out of the second-tier this season.
