Gary McSheffrey

McSheffrey swaps Scunny for Donny

League One strugglers Doncaster Rovers have acted before the emergency loan window deadline by swooping for Scunthorpe United forward Gary McSheffrey. The 33-year-old moves to the Keepmoat Stadium for the remainder of this season.

The former Coventry City and Birmingham City attacker has been allocated the number seven squad number and is available to make his Donny debut on Friday against Colchester United.

McSheffrey can play on the left-wing or as a centre forward and also provides great experience as well as versatility. He has played well over 400 professional games at Premier League and Football League level. He moves to Scunthorpe in January 2014. He has appeared in 26 League One games for Scunthorpe so far this season, scoring five goals.

Speaking following his signing, manager Darren Ferguson expressed his delight at adding McSheffrey to his roster, saying he has ‘quality in the final third’ and has experienced a similar situation to this at previous clubs.

McSheffrey trained with his new team-mates earlier today and Ferguson hopes to add more to his squad too. Tommy Rowe also recently joined from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a similar deal.

Doncaster are very much in danger of returning to League Two after only being a Championship club a few seasons ago. They are in the League One relegation places, without a victory in their last twelve matches. It is also five straight defeats, scoring only three in their last eight matches overall, so Ferguson is clearly keen to improve his forward line.
