Lee Johnson

Bristol City unlikely to add more loan signings

Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson has said that players are more likely to leave on loan, rather than join on loan ahead of Thursday’s emergency loan window deadline. Speaking to the official club website, the former Barnsley boss says he is more than happy with his recruitment in the temporary market.

There had been speculation that Johnson would swoop for another central midfield given the injury problems to captain Korey Smith. However the former Oldham Athletic man is closing in on a return to the first-team and he should be available after the international break.

Nathan Baker, Alex Pearce, Adam Matthews, Lee Tomlin and Peter Odemwingie are all players that are currently on loan with the Robins. Plus, the injured Ben Gladwin is also officially on the books still, although he is back at parent club Queens Park Rangers for treatment.

Recently, goalkeeper Max O’Leary was allowed to join National League strugglers Kidderminster Harriers on loan for the rest of the season, and Johnson admits that other young players could be set to move on too, but only if it suits everyone concerned,

“I would love to see Zak Vyner go out on loan as well as the likes of Joe Morrell and even George Dowling. If there was the potential for that to happen I would certainly be interested.

“But all the circumstances have to be right for that to happen. You don’t just shove them out willy-nilly – they have to go to the right clubs.”

Following the international break, Bristol City, now six points clear of the Championship relegation places, make the trip to Hull City before welcoming in-form Rotherham United to Ashton Gate a few days later.
