Stephens, Stephens extends Barnet FC contract

Stephens extends Barnet FC contract

According to the club website, former Liverpool academy goalkeeper Jamie Stephens has signed a new contract with Barnet which will see him stay at The Hive for another two years.

The young stopper has made 26 appearances for the bees this season after signing for the club in August and has kept 10 clean sheets so far.

He was originally signed to act as backup for goalkeeper Graham Stack who helped the bees secure automatic promotion from the Conference last season after 46 appearances. However, the 34 year old was plagued by an injury (groin) early in the season and Stephens stepped up to the job.

Since October, the 22 year old has been the number one choice and has been on good form, helping the bees keep a mid-table status in their first season back in league two.

On the contract extension, manager Martin Allen has said, “It’s a great move to get this young goalkeeper signed up for another two years, with an option to extend after that.”

“I’m really pleased for Jamie, I’m pleased for the football club, and it’s another important step forward for all of us.”

Stephens has also commented, ““I’m ecstatic – I’m really happy to have committed my future to the club.”

“The team, the infrastructure and the people here – it’s a team on the up, and I’m glad to be a part of it.”
