With two sets of matches (minus a few postponements) this week’s League 2 Team of the Week was, once again, tough to call. Find out who made the cut below…
The Goalkeeper in this week’s team is Oxford United’s Ryan Clarke. Clarke kept two clean sheets, against Torquay and Exeter, and helped his team through what has been a difficult week, following manager Chris Wilder’s exit.
This week’s defence is Will Antwi, Ian Evatt, Nathan Pond and Johnny Mullins. Wimbledon’s Antwi was crucial in leading his side to two successive wins and he grabbed himself a goal in the Dons’ 2-1 win over Hartlepool. Evatt was key for Chesterfield in securing two wins, against Northampton and York, and he assisted Chesterfield’s third against Northampton. Long-serving Fleetwood defender, Nathan Pond, scored in his side’s victory over Burton and was instrumental in securing a clean sheet in the Cod Army’s televised tie against Scunthorpe. After two clean sheets this week, the team wouldn’t be complete without an Oxford defender, so Johnny Mullins has made the cut this week.
The midfield is, this week, made up of a trio of Kaid Mohamed, John-Joe O’Toole and Gary Roberts. Mohamed joined Bristol Rovers on loan this week and has made an instant impact, inspiring Rovers to a win over Newport and was unlucky to find himself on the losing side against Accrington. O’Toole, also of Bristol Rovers, is having a season to remember and scored against Newport to help secure an important win for the Gas. Chesterfield winger Gary Roberts has also made the cut this week with two goals and a man of the match performance against Northampton. He is the week’s star man.
The three up front are Jake Jervis, Luke Norris and Luke James. The three youngsters all grabbed two goals this week and all look like good prospects for the future. This week’s forward line would be a force to reckon with in League 1 and perhaps even the Championship.
