Bristol Rovers sign young Swansea City star

League 2 promotion chasers Bristol Rovers have signed Swansea City striker Oliver McBurnie on a loan deal until the end of the season according to the Bristol Post.

The 19 year old makes the temporary move to The Memorial Stadium to provide cover for injured duo Rory Gaffney and Ellis Harrison. Rovers Manager Darrell Clarke stated that he would be looking to bring in new faces after Saturday’s victory at Notts County and The Pirates boss has been able to secure the services of McBurnie.

The Leeds born youngster started his career at Bradford City with the player making 20 appearances for The Bantams but failing to score. McBurnie spent two successful loan spells at Conference Premier side Chester City during the second half of last season scoring five goals in 14 appearances.

The young striker joined Premier League side Swansea City for an undisclosed fee from Bradford City last summer. The youngster is yet to play for the Swans but did score a first senior career hat trick against Luton Town during a short loan spell at Newport County earlier this season.

McBurnie qualifies to play for Scotland and has featured for the country at Under 19 and Under 21 levels.

The striker could make his Bristol Rovers debut against AFC Wimbledon at The Memorial Stadium tomorrow evening subject to international clearance.
