Striker in UK to push through Forest move

Striker Andre Moritz has flown to the UK with the intention of signing for Championship side Nottingham Forest according to the Nottingham Post. However there are complications which mean a deal isn’t straightforward.

The 29-year-old is a free agent after his deal with Thai side Buritam United ended, but their transfer window remains open. However Forest remain under a transfer embargo, so the Football League need certain proof and evidence that signing Moritz wouldn’t break any Financial Fair Play rules.

Dougie Freedman is clearly a fan of the Brazilian, having previously signed him whilst manager of Crystal Palace and also Bolton Wanderers. Financial Fair Play rulings say that only £5,000 per-week of wages could be allocated to Moritz or any one new player that enters the City Ground.

The key is for Freedman and Nottingham Forest to essentially prove to the Football League that signing Moritz wouldn’t see them break any FFP rulings. Moritz is certainly a well-travelled individual, having played in Brazil, Turkey, England, Indian, South Korea and most recently Thai during his footballing career.

He only recently moved to Buriram, but now their season has finished, he has set his sights on returning to the UK and particularly Freedman. The club are limited in terms of what they can do in the transfer market at this stage of the season. Free agents can join at any time and the emergency loan window is still open. However they are only allowed a certain squad size under FFP guidelines and can only spend a certain amount on wages.

It remains to be seen if a deal can go through. The fact he is a free agent should make it a slightly easier process to deal with. However Forest and Moritz face a nervous wait to see if a deal can go through. Based on tweets that Moritz has recently posted (below), he has reacquainted himself with the British weather once again!
