Burton boss on Bramall Lane win: “Everything worked tonight”

Burton boss Nigel Clough was impressed with his side’s battling performance in their narrow 1-0 victory away to Sheffield United on Tuesday.

The game was Nigel Clough’s first at Bramall Lane since being dismissed as manager by The Blades in May 2015, and Clough’s Burton side exacted perfect revenge by grabbing all three points courtesy of a Lucas Akins strike in the 49th minute.

A victory for The Brewers sees them extend their lead at the top of League One to four points, after 10 man Wigan were held to a scoreless draw away at Millwall.

Speaking to Burton’s club website, Clough addressed the vitality of the victory for his side:

“It was a complete away performance in some ways.” Clough said.

“I don’t think we had a bad player on the pitch – everybody did their jobs,”.

With Sheffield United firmly in the hunt for a playoff spot, Clough recognised how difficult it can be to travel to a rival’s stadium midweek and deliver a perfect performance:

“Everything worked tonight and it can be a difficult place to come.”

With a game in hand over 2nd place, and an eight point gap to 3rd, Burton will be feeling extremely confident that they can secure a second promotion in two seasons with a positive string of results in the coming weeks, starting with a trip to bottom-dwellers Crewe on Saturday, followed by a trip to Valley Parade and Bradford on Tuesday.
