Bristol City target new loan signing

Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson has confirmed to the Bristol Post that he is likely to strengthen his squad in the emergency loan window. A loan space has freed up after Ben Gladwin, on loan from QPR, had to return to Loftus Road because of injury.

That means there are only four loan players on the books at Ashton Gate, and Football League rules say that up to five can be in any one matchday squad at any point of the season. Johnson hopes to take advantage of that fact.

Despite beating Nottingham Forest 2-1 away from home at the weekend, Johnson revealed that he would still like to bolster his squad. The Robins have enjoyed an upturn in form since Johnson took over, after leaving his role with League One side Barnsley.

With Gladwin returning, it is expected that Johnson will look to recruit in the midfield area. The need to do so has strengthened even more after the injury to Corey Smith, which ruled him out of action for three trip to Nottingham. Speaking of Gladwin and the need to replace him, Johnson said it is an avenue he is exploring,

“Even though the deal for Ben cannot be undone, his going back might mean we now look to recruit in a certain area.

“He has gone back to QPR to be assessed and he will potentially need an operation. He felt something in his knee again and that’s when he took the decision to send him back.”

Gladwin only appeared once for the club, but speaking about the weekend victory, Johnson said that he was delighted with their response to falling a goal behind,

“I was impressed with their reaction, because to go a goal down at a place like this (City Ground), could have made things really difficult,

“We could have capitulated again, but we didn’t and I think we looked really strong. Everything about our play was good and we thoroughly deserved to win.”

Johnson will be hoping his team can continue their fine run of form this weekend when they welcome rivals Cardiff City to Ashton Gate.
