It’s a rare thing that you score a hat-trick in football yet still end up on the losing side in a game. That’s what happened to Charlton’s Yaya Sanogo today.
Before today, Sanogo had only played a bit part in two previous Charlton games since arriving on loan from Arsenal, totalling just 28 minutes.
Today the rangy 6ft 3½in forward played the full 90 minutes for the Addicks and repaid them in spades with three goals that very nearly gained a valuable point for Charlton who were undone by a late Reading winner.
Sanogo, who arrived at Arsenal from Auxerre in 2013 returned earlier this season from a disappointing loan spell at Dutch giants Ajax with a less-than-ringing recommendation from Ajax youth coach Ronald de Boer who said about the Frenchman, “I still have my doubts. I have still found no qualities with which you can do something.”
Whilst those qualities may haver been hidden from Eredisie eyes, they were on full display for all to see at The Valley today as he notched the following goals.

Understandably, Charlton fans are over the moon with the three goal burst from the Arsenal loanee and have taken to Twitter to demonstrate this with glee.

Some Charlton fans are just happy that Sanogo’s lethal nature in front of goal prevented a worse loss than what they received.
Riga lost the plot, playing 5 at the back with one centre midfielder. Sanogo saved us from an embarrassment #cafc

For this Charlton fan, the manner of the loss despite sanogo’s goals is a portent of doom for the club.
When you manage to get three goals out of Yaya Sanogo and still lose you know you're going down #cafc

For this fan , a pinch, a punch or a kick in the crowns is not enough to make Sanogo’s hat-trick heroics sink in more easily.
Sanogo gets standing ovation. I'm in an alternative universe. It's the only explanation. #cafc

This Tweet pretty much sums up the whole package of three goals and ending up on the losing side.
