Josh Wakefield has signed for the Saddlers on loan until the end of the season.
The 22-year-old spent his youth career at the Cherries and has since been loaned out to a number or clubs.
The midfielder has made four appearances for Premiership side AFC Bournemouth since his senior career started in 2012, but has failed to make a prominent mark on the first team.
When Wakefield singed for the Cherries at the age of 12, Walsall manager Sean O’Driscoll happened to be in charge and the move will see the pair reunited.
The loan deal could be made permanent in the summer as the Saddlers are set to lose a number of players due to contracts running out.
Sean O’Driscoll told the club website, “Josh is well thought of at Bournemouth. He’s technically good with an excellent attitude and has integrated well with the group since he has been with us.”
Wakefield has been training with the side for three weeks now, however the loan deal was only confirmed today.
A young and fresh player could be what the team needs to edge them closer to automatic promotion by the end of the season.
Wakefield has said, “It’s a fantastic club to be at for a young player but I’m here now and I want to try and impress the Manager.”
Walsall sit in fourth position in League One, just two points off second place.
Wakefield should be available for the Saddlers away fixture at Burton Albion this weekend.
