Boro fans left furious after late TV fixture change

Hundreds of fans of Championship automatic promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough have been left furious after their away fixture at Charlton Athletic was switched to accommodate live television coverage according to the Gazette Live.

Boro were scheduled to travel to The Valley to face Charlton Athletic on Saturday 12th March with the match kicking off at 3pm however that kick off time has been changed just 17 days before the fixture date leaving Boro fans out of pocket with many of the travelling army now left having to make significant amendments to their travel arrangements.

As a result of Sky Sports’ request to broadcast the match live, Boro will now travel to South East London on Sunday 13th March with the match now kicking off at 3.30pm.

With train travel being sold around 12 weeks in advance of travel dates many Boro fans booked their travel arrangements in mid December but must now reschedule at the last minute with many fares now exceeding £120 for a return train journey to the Capital.

As a gesture of good will, Middlesbrough are offering a one off payment of £50 per supporter towards the cost of their rearranged travel arrangements however this reimbursement will not cover the full cost of their supporters’ losses.

The match is Boro’s third rearranged fixture in March with matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Hull City also picked for live television coverage.
