Match Preview: Bury v Barnsley

If Barnsley are to add to their run of 8 wins in 9 games at Gigg Lane tonight, they will have to do so without Aidy White.

Caretaker manager Paul Heckingbottom is awaiting results of an ankle injury suffered in the win against Doncaster Rovers.

Heckingbottom said: “We’re now waiting for another opinion on the x-ray and then a scan. We hope it’s not too bad, hopefully he’ll be back sooner rather than later.”

Saturdays match winner, Ashley Fletcher, on loan for Manchester United, will be pushing for a start against resurgent Bury after impressing in recent games. However he is reluctant to be type-cast.

He told the Barnsley Chronicle: “I don’t want to be labelled as an impact sub.”

Bury will be keen to exact revenge and manager David Flitcroft could leapfrog his former employers. The 3-0 defeat at Oakwell earlier this month was a performance Flitcroft described as spirited but defensively poor.

Following a rock-bottom 6-0 hammering by Coventry a mini-revival could see the shakers complete a 9 point haul over the last week.

Victory for Barnsley would see them climb to 8th but Heckingbottom is being careful not to judge Bury on their Oakwell performance. He said: ““I went to watch the Sheffield United game and you could see they weren’t happy with their defeats. They’ve done a lot of work off the ball and it’s paid off, we know it’s going to be difficult.”

“We’re on a good run, we’re full of confidence and we’ll go there trying to win the game. We’ll respect them and pay attention to the problems they cause but it’s all about what can we do to win the game.”

Around 800 Barnsley fans are expected to make the trip to Gigg Lane.
