Scunthorpe United appoint Daws as Manager

League 1 side Scunthorpe United have appointed Caretaker Manager Nick Daws as their permanent Manager until the end of the season according to the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

The 45 year old former Bury and Rotherham United midfielder took charge of The Iron on a Caretaker basis following former Manager Mark Robins’ sacking during the middle of last month.

Defender Andy Dawson will continue in an Assistant Manager role after working with Daws over the past few weeks. The Iron have won four of their last five matches with the pair at the helm although they suffered their first defeat on Saturday when their side lost 2-1 at struggling Fleetwood Town.

Having started his playing career in non league with Flixton and Altrincham, Daws moved on to Bury and Rotherham United where he made over 500 Football League appearances. The new Scunny boss also spent two short periods on loan at Grimsby Town.

Daws is an experienced Coach having worked at Rotherham United, Barnsley and Queens Park Rangers since hanging up his boots prior to his move to Glanford Park after Mark Robins was appointed Manager of The Iron. Daws completed his UEFA A Licence when at Barnsley and also has a BSc in Sport Science.

Scunthorpe United’s next match is against Oldham Athletic at Glanford Park on Saturday.
