Andre Gray misses a penalty as Reading hold Burnley to a stalemate

Burnley have missed the chance to move into the automatic promotion places in the Championship after being held to a goalless draw at Reading.

The best chance of the game fell to Burnley’s top goalscorer, Andre Gray, but he saw his penalty saved by Ali Al-Habsi.

Andre Gray had chances throughout, and should have put Burnley in front early on when he blazed George Boyd’s cross over from six yards out.

Both sides created chances, and Tom Heaton saved from Yann Kermorgant’s header.

At the other end, Gray put Matt Lowton’s cross wide from point-blank range after the break.

The Royals could have won it when Robson-Kanu spooned it well over.

Reading dominated possession, but didn’t create any real goal scoring opportunities.

The home side have now scored only eight goals in their last 14 matches.

Burnley have extended their unbeaten run to eight games and remain in 3rd place in the Championship table.

Reading remain 15th and haven’t won a Championship game in their last six attempts.

Next up for both sides, Reading are in FA Cup action at home to West Brom, whilst Burnley host Rotherham in the Championship.
