Leeds boss on under-performing team: “certain players will need to leave”

Leeds manager Steve Evans has stated when speaking to The Yorkshire Post that certain players in his side have under-performed, and will need to leave the club.

Evans’ Leeds suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, after which Evans claimed he’d “rather watch pain dry” than utilise Forest boss Dougie Freedman’s chosen playing style and formation.

Following the loss which sees Leeds currently languishing in 16th place in The Championship, Evans laid the blame firmly at the feet of his players, making it clear that it is not the size of the club’s transfer budget that has hampered Leeds this season.

On Leeds’ situation, Evans affirmed: “This budget is a very healthy budget. This budget back in July was a top six budget in fairness to the president and it still is today.

“So the reason you’re not in the top six is because of the players. It’s not because you’ve not paid the money.”

Having won only one of their last eight league games, Evans knows his side needs a sharp improvement in order to prevent them from being dragged into a relegation dogfight. However, in order to make moves in the loan market to acquire new players, Evans stated that players who have under-performed this season have to go.

“For us to do certain things, certain players will need to leave, that’s obvious.”

A brutally honest Evans continued that certain players to have been brought into Elland Road simply haven’t performed to the standard he wants to see:

“You’ve signed the players thinking they would take you to where you want to be.

“The problem lies therein the football club that those players are not good enough.”

While Leeds’ current league position appears bleak, Evans remains assured that his players’ performances will need to drastically improve in order to prevent Leeds’ position in The Championship becoming even bleaker.
