Oxford boss rejects Manchester United job offer

Oxford United boss Michael Appleton has rejected the chance to join Manchester United at the end of the season, according to The Times.

Appleton was approached and asked to relaunch the whole setup for the youth teams at United but rejected the offer and instead decided to remain with Oxford, where he is close to signing a new contract.

It is widely expected that Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal will not be in charge of the club next season, with United looking to reshape things throughout the whole club.

This includes the youth setup, which would have been Appleton’s job.  It is understood that Tottenham Hotspur’s head of coaching, John McDermott, turned down a similar role last month.

Appleton is enjoying success at Oxford and the club currently sit in third position in the League Two table. Oxford also knocked Premier League Swansea City out of the FA Cup earlier this season before losing in the next round to Blackburn Rovers.
