Leroy Fer

Dutch international swaps QPR for Swansea

Queens Park Rangers have allowed playmaker Leroy Fer leave on loan to join Premier League side Swansea City. Subject to international clearance, the Dutch international will move to the Welsh club and become their second signing of the January transfer window.

Earlier today QPR completed the signing of Burton Albion forward Abdenasser El Khayati for an undisclosed fee, possibly pathing the way for Fer to move to the Premier League strugglers, managed by Francesco Guidolin.

The 26-year-old has earned 11 caps for the Holland national team and moved to QPR in August 2014 after leaving Norwich City, who were relegated into the Championship. He reportedly joined for an £8million fee on that occasion.

He has mostly played since Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink took over at manager of the R’s, but has sometimes been left out of the side and on the bench. Clearly the former Chelsea striker was a little unconvinced about the player, who possibly wanted to move away anyway.

Prior to joining the Canaries in 2013, Fer made a name for himself in Dutch football. He came through the youth system at Feyenoord, playing over 100 times. During his time with the club he would win the KNVB Cup in 2008. He then made the move to FC Twente a few seasons later.
