Sunderland midfielder set for Blackburn Rovers medical

Sunderland midfielder Jordi Gomez is understood to be on his way to Ewood Park to complete a medical before signing for Blackburn Rovers on loan for the rest of the season, according to The Sun.

Gomez has made only six appearances for Sunderland so far this season, failing to score a goal in any of these outings.  Therefore he will be allowed to leave the club on loan.

Sunderland signed the midfielder after his contract with Wigan Athletic expired at the end of the 2013-14 season.  Gomez went on to make 27 league starts for the club, scoring four goals.

Gomez arrived in England in 2008, signing on loan for Swansea City.  This was arguably Gomez’s best season in English football, as he scored 12 goals in the Championship.

Blackburn manager Paul Lambert has been searching for a creative midfielder all month, with reports indicating that the club missed out on Aiden McGeady as he signed for rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

Rovers have also been linked with a move for Everton’s Darren Gibson but it is believed that if this deal does happen, it will be on an emergency loan deal when the window opens in a weeks time.
