Paolo Hurtado

Hurtado departs Reading

Reading and Peruvian international winger Paolo Hurtado has completed a loan move back to Portugal, where he will play for Vitoria de Guimaraes for the remainder of the season.

Hurtado gained a reputation in Portugal for his pace, skill and creativity, however the Reading fans have hardly got a chance to see what Hurtado has got to offer.

It has been known that Hurtado has really struggled to both settle in to a new environment and learn the language after it was revealed Orlando Sa had to take up the job of translater for the majority of the season.

It has also been revealed, since Steve Clarke got sacked, that Hurtado was actually an owners signing which is more than common in football nowadays with owners getting more and more power.

It is debatable, with the case of Hurtado being a perfect example of this, whether the owners having a bigger say in signings is actually healthy for the club or not.

I am extremely disappointed that Hurtado hasn’t been able to settle in because he was one of the summer signings that I was very excited about after seeing various videos on the internet of footage when he was in Portgual where he showed creativity and a spark that Reading have been missing for a very long time, and I’m sure many Reading fans share this view.

It is a surprise that Hurtado hasn’t been given more match time than he has because none of Reading’s wide players have really stood out this season with McCleary, Robson-Kanu, Ola John and Piazon all failing to perform at a high level on a consistent basis throughout the season.

I just hope we get to see Hurtado back in a Reading shirt next season so he can finally show the Championship what he has got to offer.
